Thoughts on Sheep

So I’ve been hanging out in the 23rd Psalm for a bit, got me thinking about the nature of sheep.

First why the image that we are sheep, why not the horses or the Lord? Running into battle, providing food by drawing the plow, carrying messages and people. Or something exciting like why are we the tigers of the Lord.

As i consider this, first sheep are NOT a beast of burden, like cattle or horses, or oxen. God is our load bearer. While I know there are things we carry, we are not meant for back breaking loads, or labor.

And tigers really? they are solitary animals, and sheep are best in a herd. WE as people need our community.

Psalm 23:2 …He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters.

From my understanding, sheep won’t lie down if they sense any danger, nor will the drink from turbulent water. In the same, space. God provides us a safe place, and still water to drink and be refreshed from.

Further on verse 5 shows that … You anoint my head with oil…

Anointing is powerful stuff. When sheep are anointed the oil covers their head AND protects them from parasites. it keeps not just their skin, but their eyes and ears clear of gnats, flies etc. that would cause severe discomfort, and we’re back to us.

Ask God to experience His Anointing in our hearts, keep our eyes, and ears clear to hear His Voice, to know His Will for our lives.

so BAAAH
