I’ve been pondering how much stones were a part of young David’s life.
As a young boy tasked with the safety and health of his father’s flock. I imagine the time he spent sitting out in the wilderness, bored but watchful, I wonder how many stones he picked up? How many did he hurl at trees, bushes small game. Then along comes a lion! David had practiced for that moment and used the tools of his trade and vanquished the lion.
Later on, while all his older brothers are in the war field, his dad sends him to “door-dash” some lunch to them.
When he gets there, he sees the entire army of Israel not going out to war. Then he sees Goliath, but not as everyone else did. They saw a giant, he saw an uncircumcised (YEAH, he looked up at Goliath and saw).
The next thing he does is call it out, and when the time of battle came, he walked away, went to a nearby stream and picked up 5 smooth stones, returned in the faith, power, and annointing of God and killed this giant that defied the army of God. Then he went back to his flocks.
I’m challenged by this story in my personal faith walk. I have come to understand that I have to look closer for the stones of God. I need to dig in scripture, in the sermons I hear, and pick up the stoness Gods has set before me.
If David hadn’t taken time to gather stones how different would that Bible recounting have gone?
I’d be scared, if or when I come across one of the giants in my life with no spiritual stones in my pocket.
So, I’m challenged and encourage everyone to make time to gather stones.
